I am a freelance investigative journalist, lecturer, media relations consultant, researcher and copy writer. My clients include national newspapers and magazines, charities, housing associations and local authorities.

Current clients:

Guardian, Observer and others – freelance (since 2007)

I research and write news and investigative features for national newspapers and magazines, including regular commissions from the Guardian and Observer.

SAE Institute – journalism lecturer (Sep 2010 – Dec 2011)

I developed and delivered the journalism module on a one year full time Digital Journalism diploma course. Subject areas included news and feature writing, media law, investigative journalism, sub-editing and public relations.

University of Brighton – guest lecturer (since Sep 2010)

I prepare and deliver lectures on investigative journalism and public relations for undergraduate students taking a journalism module as part of their humanities degree.

Cambell Tickell management consultancy (since 2007)            

Media relations, copywriting and stakeholder surveys. Stakeholder survey work included devising methodology, drafting questionnaires and carrying out in-depth interviews with senior corporate and public sector executives on behalf of The Housing Corporation and Genesis Housing Group,

South London YMCA, Lambeth and Croydon

I produce the annual report and deliver staff media training for this Croydon based housing association.

Community Links – Associate Researcher (since 2009)

I have conducted a variety of qualitative research projects including:

  • Employers who are paying below national minimum wage in London (with Ipsos MORI)
  • Self-employed/sole traders who are working informally / cash-in-hand in London (with University of Sheffield and Joseph Rowntree Foundation)
  • NEET young people (Community Links research)
  • Informal catering workers in Brick Lane (with Toynbee Hall)

Origin Housing Association – PR consultant (since 2003)

I support Origin Housing’s media relations (including crisis management), and publications (annual report and newsletters).

Barnsbury Housing Association, PR consultant (2003 – 11)

I produced BHA’s quarterly newsletter and annual report and handled media relations.

March 08 -Feb 10  Toynbee Hall – Transact Co-ordinator (three days per week)

I managed the national forum for financial inclusion, a membership organisation comprising local authorities, housing associations, advice agencies, government bodies, financial institutions and others. I doubled membership base, achieved high profile PR, commissioned and managed research, developed website, ran national conferences and events. I also managed joint campaigns with Office for Fair Trading and others and managed a staff team and volunteers.

March 07-March 08   Toynbee Hall – PR consultant for Capitalise Debt Advice Partnership

I led Capitalise’s media relations, campaigns and events organising. I secured high profile media coverage including The Observer, BBC London, BBC Radio 5 and Sky News.

Apr’06-Feb’07  Shaftesbury Housing Group – Communications Manager (3 days per week)

I led Shaftesbury’s media relations, tenant consultation conferences and produced their annual report, newsletter and all publications.Apr’05-Jul’07  Camelot Foundation  – Communications consultant
